Moss Removal questions, answered.
Straight answers for Richmond homes and businesses. Can't see yours? Ask us.
Is Richmond Moss Removal a moss removal company?
No. We publish local guidance and pass enquiries to independent providers. They do the work, deal with you directly and set their own prices. Read the full explanation on the referral disclosure page.
How does a referral from this site work?
You send an enquiry. We pass it to an independent local provider where one is available. They contact you, look at the job and give you a quote. You decide whether to book.
Does it cost anything to send an enquiry?
Sending an enquiry does not cost you anything and you are under no obligation to book. Any price you are quoted comes from the provider. Read the referral disclosure for details.
Why does moss grow so much in Richmond?
Richmond is wet. Vancouver International Airport, in Richmond, averages about 1,160 mm of precipitation a year, with November the wettest month. Damp, shaded surfaces dry slowly, and moss thrives on them.
What is the best time of year to get moss removed?
Moss is most visible in the wet months, but roof work depends on the weather. Spring and summer usually give more dry days. July is Richmond's driest month, so book early if you want that window.
What can I do about moss on my roof right now?
Do not use a pressure washer on shingles, and do not walk on the roof. Look from the ground for blocked gutters and overhanging branches. Then send an enquiry so a provider can inspect the roof and quote.
Are the products used on roofs regulated in BC?
Generally yes. The BC government's roof moss factsheet says any chemical used must be approved for roofs in Canada and carry a registration number. Ask the provider for the product name and number.
Can wash water go into a storm drain in Richmond?
Generally no. Richmond's Pollution Prevention and Clean-up Bylaw No. 8475 prohibits polluting substances from entering storm drains and watercourses. Ask any provider how they handle runoff.
Does a provider need a pesticide licence in BC?
A business that applies pesticides as a paid service generally needs a pesticide user service licence under BC's Integrated Pest Management Regulation. Some products are excluded, so ask the provider or the provincial ministry whether theirs is covered.
Do I need a city permit for moss removal in Richmond?
We have not found anything saying you do. Rules can change, so ask the provider and check with the City of Richmond if you are unsure.
Will moss removal void my roof warranty?
It might, depending on the roof maker's terms and the method used. Check your warranty and your insurer's terms before booking, and tell the provider what you find.
How do I compare quotes from providers?
Get at least two written quotes. Compare the method, the products, what is included such as gutters, how runoff is handled and any guarantee terms, not just the price.
